The Black Community Fund

Established as a fund at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation by the Hall Family Foundation, the Black Community Fund has been investing in the African-American community in Greater Kansas City for over 25 years. The Black Community Fund became an affiliate of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation in 2007.
Our Mission
To provide support to enhance the socio-economic aspects of the African-American community in the Greater Kansas City area.
Individual gifts are vital to this work which includes financial resources to organizations and students. Your contribution can make an important difference in the numbers reached and served annually.

Grant Opportunities
To be considered a potential grantee, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and demonstrate a programmatic focus on improving the quality of life of African-Americans in the Greater Kansas City region through one of the following areas:
- Health Care
- Education
- Youth Development
While requests to support special events are discouraged, the following types of grants will not be considered:
- Grants to endowments or to consultants that help prepare, create and build endowments.
- Reduction or liquidation of existing debt.
- Capital expenditures.
- Scholarships or grants to individuals.
- Annual appeals or fundraising drives, membership contributions and conference expenses.
Number of and Duration of Grants
Grants usually range in size from $500 to $10,000. No organization shall have more than one active grant or grant request with the Black Community Fund at any time. In general, the Black Community Fund will not be the sole or primary funder of a proposed project or organization.
How to Apply
- All proposals must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. on the due date through the internet grant application module (IGAM).

- You will be prompted to create a username and password, unless you have previously done so.
- Users are encouraged to create a single username and password for your organization to be shared among staff.
- Save the IGAM homepage to your web browser favorites to access draft and submitted applications: www.grantrequest.com/SID_1164?SA=AM.
- A compatible web browser must be used, either Internet Explorer version 6 or higher or Fire Fox version 1.5 or higher and have cookies enabled.
- Once logged in, users can view pending and historical applications, but not applications saved under other usernames.

Reporting
Either prior to or after being funded, the applying organization may be invited to make a presentation at a meeting of the Board about the organization's programs.
Organizations that receive a grant from the Black Community Fund will be contacted after the grant is awarded with information detailing the applicable reporting requirements.
