Making a Good Organization Even Better
Jan Kreamer
Bill Hall, president of the Hall Family Foundation, recruited Jan Kreamer to lead the Learning Exchange, where she worked before leaving to head up the Kansas City Association of Trusts and Foundations. The Association merged with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, and Jan became the combined organization's first president and CEO.
A group of generous donors established the Janice C. Kreamer Community Fund to honor Jan when she retired in 2005. The fund's three-year capacity building grant competition resulted in more than $600,000 in grants to local organizations.
"Jan is an amazing leader," said Laura McKnight, Jan's successor at the Community Foundation. "Not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for Jan's mentorship and the many lessons she taught me. It is true that she built the Community Foundation from $12 million to over $1 billion," said Laura, "but Jan's greatest legacy is the culture of innovation, integrity, respect and passion for the mission that she instilled at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Now that's capacity building."
