JACOB L. AND ELLA C. LOOSE FOUNDATION

2010 GUIDELINES*

 

Primary Area of Interest
Mr. and Mrs. Loose had a simple and direct charge to successor board members of the Foundation: To help the poor and needy children and families of Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri.

Geography
The geographical focus of the Loose Foundation is limited to Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri. Specifically, organizations must clearly demonstrate that the majority of the program clients/beneficiaries are residents of Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri.

Grant Requirements and Restrictions

  • Grant applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Applicants must attend a Loose Foundation grant information session to be eligible to apply. Sessions for 2010 have concluded and were held on April 15 and March 15, 2010. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate that the majority of the program clients/beneficiaries are residents of Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri.
  • The applicant must have a REVIEWED nonprofit profile.
  • The Loose Foundation does not fund any component of a capital campaign, endowment campaign or annual fund drive.
  • The Loose Foundation will not award grants for debt reduction.
  • No grants will be made to individuals, including scholarships.

Eligibility
In keeping with the intent of Mr. and Mrs. Loose, the Loose Foundation’s focus will be funding programs that support the direct delivery of human or social service to poor and needy children and families. Programs that provide services other than human or social services are not eligible for funding and will not be considered.

Guidelines

  • The Loose Foundation will only fund programs that support the direct delivery of human or social services to poor and needy children and families.
  • Programs must demonstrate that the majority of program clients/beneficiaries are residents of Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Applications must meet all grant requirements.
  • The application should demonstrate presence of other funding commitments for the program and evidence that it is a sustainable model.
  • Equipment expenses will only be considered if the applicant demonstrates that the requested equipment will directly improve the organization’s ability to deliver human or social services to poor and needy children and families.

Deadline
Applications are due online Thursday, June 10, 2010, 5 p.m. CST

Grant Range
One year grants ranging from $5,000 to $75,000.

Timeline
Applications are reviewed on an annual basis by the grants committee, who make recommendations to the full board of the Loose Foundation for final approval.

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation is available to assist organizations by providing feedback on grant applications prior to their submission. The Loose Foundation strongly encourages applicants to request feedback on grant applications prior to their submission. Applicants who are interested should contact Stephanie Mack at 816-627-3422 to schedule a feedback call with Community Foundation staff. Feedback calls should be requested at least two weeks prior to the application deadline.

Procedures for Grant Seekers
 

  1. Ensure your organization has a REVIEWED Nonprofit profile. Contact the Donor Relations and Education Team at 816-842-0388 or webmaster@gkccf.org with any questions.
  2. All applications must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. CST on the due date through the internet grant application module (iGAM).
  3. The iGAM grant application will be made available 6 to 8 weeks prior to the deadline.

iGAM Instructions
  1. iGAM does NOT work in conjunction with nonprofit search.
  2. When the iGAM grant application is made available (6 to 8 weeks prior to the deadline) the link will be posted here.
  3. When the iGAM grant application is made available you will be prompted to create a username and password, unless previously done so.
  4. Users are encouraged to create a single username and password for your organization to be shared among staff.
  5. Save the iGAM My Account to your web browser favorites to access draft and submitted applications: www.grantrequest.com/SID_1164?SA=AM. This address is new, as of February 15, 2010.
  6. A compatible web browser must be used, either Internet Explorer version 6 or higher or Fire Fox version 1.5 or higher and have cookies enabled.
  7. Once logged in, users can view pending and historical applications, but not applications saved under other usernames.
