AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN
KANSAS CITY, MO BRANCH
NETTIE IRENE VAN DER VEER WAGY
FUND FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS
2010 GRANT GUIDELINES
Overview
The purpose of the Kansas City, Missouri Branch of the American Association of University Women shall be to unite graduates of regionally accredited four-year educational institutions in order to promote equity, education, intellectual growth, individual worth, and development of opportunities for women and girls. The mission of the Nettie Irene Van Der Veer Wagy Fund will be to further the mission of AAUW and to honor Irene Wagy.
A six-member committee of AAUW oversees the Wagy Fund and makes all funding recommendations.
Areas of Interest
The AAUW/Wagy Fund Committee is seeking proposals that will allow it to join in partnerships with organizations that promote societal change through programs benefiting women and girls. The Committee believes that the entire community benefits from effective programs which provide women and girls:
- Economic opportunity and security
- Enhanced self image in measurable ways
- Lifelong education
- Healthcare throughout their lifecycles
- Personal Safety
- Legal and human rights
- Reproductive rights
- Respect and opportunities for girls so that they are equally valued in their families and in society
- Equal access with men to the political, economic and cultural life of their communities
Preferences
The AAUW/Wagy Fund gives preference to organizations located in Kansas City, Missouri. The Wagy Trust requirements limit funding to public charities in the five-county greater Kansas City area, which includes Clay, Platte and Jackson Counties in Missouri and Wyandotte and Johnson Counties in Kansas.
Grant Restrictions and Requirements
- Applicants must be public charities. IRS tax exemption letter for public charities 501(c)(3) must accompany the letter of interest.
- Since the AAUW Branch is based in Kansas City, Missouri, the Committee will generally favor grant requests from groups headquartered there. However, proposals from organizations in the five county Kansas City metropolitan area will be considered if the project primarily benefits Kansas City, Missouri women and girls.
- In addition to the monetary grant, AAUW may choose to support the approved proposal by assigning one or more volunteers to assist with the project.
The Fund usually does not support:
- Individuals
- Fraternal, labor or social groups
- Endowments
- Annual appeals
- Capital expenditures
Grant Range
Grants will range from $1,000 to $4,000.
